Interview With The Vampire (1994) - Unconditional Love

If there is a Hell...I'll see you there... - NIN (Heresy)

In every marriage there is conflict. Conflicts arise when children are brought into the mix at times, and one parent must have the upper hand, putting their spouse and child at a loss with no say. Lestat, the evil sociopath of a vampire, wore the pants. He had full control or at least that is what he thought. He rescued a very human and emotionally eroded Louis from a hard shell he was living in. Louis had lost his wife and child during birth which ripped his soul right out of him. Lestat had an eye on him..and wanted to "rescue" him from the shell of a former life...

With this bite I thee wed...

I suppose Lestat gave Louis something to appreciate. Now Louis is no longer human. He sees like a vampire, eats like a vampire, but refuses to think like a vampire. At first he refuses to accept what he has become. He is not completely free from his past life as a human being...

To the Vampire...A Daughter..

The reason Louis is not free is because once little, sweet and innocent Claudia, is initiated into the Vampire culture, after being taken from her mother, Louis is immediately bound by the chains of unconditional love. The same exact love a father feels for his daughter. Was Lestat doing Louis a favor by bringing Claudia into this dark world which was inhabited by them both? Maybe it was his way of giving Louis the child he should have had.. Or maybe, it was to prey on Louis' heart strings..

Sometimes a child plays favorites. Sometimes Mommy is the good guy, sometimes Daddy. Sometimes you hate Mommy, but love Daddy, and vica versa. It depends on how often you get your way. Lestat saw Claudia as a pawn. To Louis, she was a daughter and he was both the mother and father. Both "father" and "daughter" lost someone dear to them in the former life and both were not entirely free from that life either..Both were trapped. Physically and emotionally. Claudia was going to remain a little girl forever...

Ahh, every parent's wish, that their child would never grow up. Louis and Claudia were in prison, and that prison was known as Hell. But at some point, both of them had to break free. They will always be vampires though and that would never change. But now they would no longer be under Lestat's dictatorship..

Father and Daughter's adventure continues. Every passing day, their bond grows stronger and their love is unbreakable. Once Lestat dies completely, however, new problems ensue. Louis now has to protect his little girl more than ever, because a new "spouse" is beckoning for him, and won't allow Claudia to go with him..

Meet Armand...the oldest living vampire. He is 400 years old...

And good Lord, does he look good for his age! But in all seriousness..this is where the love between father and daughter gets compromised. Have a handkerchief ready because I know every time I watch this, I cry..

Once again..Louis' soul is ripped out, just like it was when he suffered his loss in human life...

Either way, there was no winning now was there? When you first transform into a vampire, you are supposed to reap the privileges that you would never receive as a human being. Becoming an undead and mystical creature of the night means you would not be bound to the ties of a human heart, because there is no bigger curse than to love and to lose. Louis was condemned. He lost a child both in the human life and in the after life...

Now he really could go on killing...the way Lestat wanted..without mercy...
